Bay-CSS uses grant money to help disabled community

HOLLYWOOD, Md. - Bay Community Support Services (Bay-CSS) is pleased to announce it has received a $13,000 matching grant from the Rural Maryland Council. These funds will support the purchase of a new lift-equipped vehicle, by providing a 20% match to the funds previously awarded by the MTA. 

The majority of the individuals serve at Bay-CSS are not able to drive due to their disability, and the addition of this lift-equipped vehicle will give Bay-CSS the ability to provide transportation to 20 additional individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

For people with disabilities, transportation is so much more than just getting from place to place; it is about breaking down their biggest obstacles in pursuing personal independence. These transportation services help them obtain paying jobs, volunteer opportunities, and gives them choices in community activities, including leisure, social, and advocacy.

Bay-CSS provides transportation services to over 200 individuals throughout rural St. Mary’s, Charles, Calvert, and South Anne Arundel Counties.

The Rural Maryland Council awards annual grants through a competitive application and review process.
