Enrollment of 200th War Dog

The United States War Dogs Association Announces Enrollment of its 200th Veteran War Dog in Free Prescription Drug Program

Pet Valu fundraiser provides sufficient funds to enable

free prescription drug program for retired military service dogs

PHILADELPHIA – The United States War Dogs Association today announced the enrollment of its 200th veteran war dog in its free prescription drug program. The successful program, for retired military service dogs, was made possible by funds raised for The U.S. War Dogs Association during Pet Valu’s annual fundraiser, now in its fifth year.

The U. S. War Dogs Association aims to provide the components necessary to immerse veteran war dogs into their adopted families. Suffering from disorders such as epilepsy, muscle spasms and PTSD, many of these dogs require the aid of many expensive medications. The free prescription drug program, established in February 2014, gives families of adopted veteran dogs the medications crucial for the dog’s health and comfort, free of expense.

As The U.S. War Dogs Association celebrates the enrollment of the 200th veteran war dog in its prescription drug program, Pet Valu continues to raise funds for the nonprofit.  Now through September 11th, customers can purchase a $5 American flag bandana or give a donation of any denomination to have their names posted on paper paws in their local Pet Valu stores. All proceeds will benefit The U.S. War Dogs Association as they continue their mission of providing state-of-the-art equipment, funding transportation for war dogs back to the United States after service, helping find forever homes for veteran war dogs and memorializing fallen four-legged soldiers.

Customers are encouraged to share photos of their pets wearing the bandanas on social media with the #PatrioticPets. For more information, please visit
