Charles County rings in the Fourth with celebrations galore

 For those wishing to celebrate the Fourth of July, Charles County will be the place to be this holiday season. There are a plethora of holiday events to help mark Independence Day, all with plenty of activities for children and adults alike.

The Town of Indian Head Fourth of July celebration is Friday, July 4 at the Village Green and Pavilion, 100 Walter Thomas Road, Indian Head. Following a patriotic opening ceremony at 3:30 p.m., there will be amusements, live entertainment (including a DJ) with food available for sale. No alcoholic beverages or pets of any kind will be allowed at the event. Admission is free. Fireworks will commence after sunset.

Town of La Plata is also celebrating Independence Day with a Watermelon Bash on the grounds of the Town Hall, 305 Queen Anne Street, La Plata, Friday, July 4 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

There will be hot dogs, games, wet fun and plenty of watermelon. The event is wheelchair accessible. For more information go to www.townoflaplata.org.

Celebrate Charles: A Fun Filled Fourth will take place Friday, July 4 from 4:30-9:30 p.m. at the home of the Blue Crabs, Regency Stadium, 11765 St. Linus Drive, Waldorf.

Local businesses, artisans, and crafters will be showcased in the Best of Charles County portion of the evening’s festivities, which also features food for purchase from: Apple Spice Junction, G-Rod Jerk Ribs & BBQ, Brasas Rotisserie & Grill, Kona Ice Charles County and Centerplate Concessions.

Kids of all ages will enjoy amusements in the Celebrate Charles Family Fun Zone. All-you-can-play wristbands will be available for purchase for $5 each (cash only, exact change preferred).

Live music is being provided by John Luskey at 4:30 p.m. and The Sam Grow Band follows at 7 p.m.

Guests will enjoy a spectacular fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. Admission and parking are free. Fees for food and product purchases.

The Charles County Fairgrounds is also having fireworks and hosting a celebration Friday, July 4 at 8440 Fairground Rd, La Plata.

Gates open at 5 p.m. Admission is free. There will be food vendors and other novelty stands available to purchase items, capped by the always beautiful firework display.
