On Wednesday, July 7 at approximately 2:25 a.m., units from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Seahorse Beach area of the Chesapeake Ranch Estates in Lusby, for a woman suffering from lacerations.

Police determined that two women had been involved in a verbal altercation that turned physical and one of the women was suffering from severe lacerations to her head and arm. The victim was air lifted to the Prince George’s County Hospital Shock Trauma Unit for treatment.  She had sustained a long laceration (approximately 8-10”) to her left upper arm and another laceration (4-6”) to the back of her head above her neck.

Detective H. Rich responded to the crime scene and interviewed several witnesses.

Investigation determined that Jessica Lyn Dayhoff, 19 of Lusby and the victim, later identified as Jessi Marie Swearington, 21 of Lusby, got into an argument which led to a physical altercation.  As soon as they separated Dayhoff got into her vehicle and left the area.  Dayhoff later returned in possession of a box cutter.  Dayhoff engaged Swearington and another physical altercation ensued.  The victim sustained the severe lacerations subsequent to the second altercation.  Dayhoff immediately fled the scene again.  D/Sgt. M. McDonough was instrumental in locating and holding the suspect for questioning.  Dayhoff has been charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and carrying a dangerous weapon with intent to injure.

The victim was admitted to Prince George’s Hospital Center with severe injuries.
