Suspected Arsonist Keeps Emergency Crews, Police Busy: Suspect Arrested

On Saturday, July 17, the first call was dispatched at approximately 9:21 a.m. to 20141 Point Lookout Rd. (Route 5) for a working commercial building fire. Multiple units responded and contained the fire.

At approximately 12:54 p.m., those same firefighters were dispatched to 21206 Bridgett Lane in the Lord Calvert Trailer Park for a working fire in which the residence was on fire. Firefighters were clear of the scene at approximately 2:07 p.m.

It seemed a busy day was winding down. However, after an investigation into both fires authorities began to suspect arson in both fires. There was a a report of suspicious activity in the Lord Calvert Trailer Park and police began zeroing in on a suspect who was ultimately arrested. Authorities arrested Louis D. Smith, 33 of Lusby.

Smith was charged with multiple counts including: Malicious Burning in the First Degree – three counts, Malicious Destruction of Property over $500, Arson – two counts and Malicious Burning in the First Degree – three counts.
