On July 14, Deputy Thompson responded to Jay Dee Court in Lexington Park for a report of an assault.

Investigation revealed the victim was walking southbound on Jay Dee Court off of the travel portion of the roadway when a Dodge van approached the victim.  The driver of the van, later identified as Charles Preston Raley, 68 of Great Mills, began yelling at the victim.  Raley then drove the van towards the victim, swerved sharply and struck the victim with the van knocking him to the ground.  The van ran over the victim's foot causing a laceration.  Raley then drove off.  The victim was treated at the scene of the collision.

Raley was located in the vehicle a short distance from the collision, arrested and charged with first and second-degree assault.
