Illegal Fireworks Cause Shed Fire on 4th of July

On Sunday, July 4, at approximately 10:30 p.m., over 25 firefighters from Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department, Prince Frederick and Dunkirk responded to 5675 Collington Drive in Huntingtown for report of a shed fire.

As crews arrived on the scene, they discovered a 12 x 24 sheld fully engulfed. Firefighters from Huntingtown Engine 61 pulled their attack line and quickly got the fire under control. However, damage to shed and the contents inside had been destroyed.

Investigation revealed that embers from an open pit fire and/or possibly nearby use of illegal fireworks landed on the shed's roof, resulting in the ignition of the fire. The shed was completely destroyed, totaling a loss of $115,000.00

No injuries were reported.
