Fatal Motorcycle Accident Leaves Lusby Man Dead

On July 4, at 2:14 a.m., Troopers responded to Hallowing Point Road (Route 231) in the area of Jibsail Drive for a reported motorcycle accident. 

Investigation revealed that Derrick Stewart Sherbert, 31 of Lusby, was operating a 2001 Suzuki GSX-R1000 motorcycle eastbound on Route 231.  Witnesses advised that Sherbert was attempting to pass vehicles on the shoulder of the roadway when he struck a guardrail and was ejected from the motorcycle and into a mailbox.  Sherbert died at the scene of the collision. 

Speed and other traffic violations were factors in the collision. 

Maryland State Police in Prince Frederick along with the Calvert County Sheriff's Office are investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred over the holiday weekend.

Rescue crews responded to 5054 Hallowing Point Road (Route 231) in Prince Frederick on Sunday, July 4 at 2:14 a.m. for report of a serious motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival, rescue crews discovered the driver of a sport bike had wrecked and as a result received mortal injuries.

Investigation revealed the driver of the motorcycle who has been identified as Derrick Stewart Sherbert, 31 of Lusby, was travelling east on 231 towards Prince Frederick when he attempted to pass another vehicle on the shoulder of the highway and as a result struck a guardrail. Sherbert was pronounced dead on the scene.

Authorities say speed appears to be a contributing factor in this deadly crash.

Police continue to investigate.
