At 7:45 p.m. July 19, Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the 90 block of Smallwood Drive in Waldorf for the report of a hit and run motor vehicle crash.

Investigation revealed a 1994 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Jose Antonio Sibrian Sibrian, 24, of Waldorf was traveling east on Smallwood Drive and struck the rear of a 2004 Nissan sport-utility vehicle driven by June Karen Sparrow, 53, of Waldorf.

Sibrian fled the scene, striking four other vehicles: A 2005 Lexus sedan driven by Lynn Brooks Newkirk, 52, of Lexington Park; a 1996 Chevrolet sedan driven by Kendra Renee Bracey, 19, of Waldorf; a 1999 Ford SUV driven by Lynette Brown, 40, of Waldorf; and a 1997 Mercedes sedan driven by Beirout Mahari Cummings, 36, of Waldorf and occupied by Meryam Hassen, 58, of Bethesda, a 3-year-old girl and a 1-year-old boy.

Officer D. Kabala was off-duty in his personal vehicle and observed Sibrian flee the crash scene. The officer followed him to a residence in the 800 block of Roxbury Court, located a short distance from the crash scene.

On-duty officers responded and found Sibrian intoxicated. He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and five counts each of fleeing the scene of a crash and failure to control speed to avoid a collision.

Further investigation revealed the tags on the vehicle were suspended and the vehicle did not have insurance. Sibrian was subsequently charged accordingly. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner.

Sparrow was flown to a hospital for treatment but her injuries are not considered life-threatening. No one else was injured. Officer E. Webster investigated.
