Driver Swerves to Miss Animal, Wrecks into Trees

At 10 p.m. July 18, Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Mattawoman Creek Road and Chicamuxen Roadin Marbury for the report of a motor vehicle crash.

Investigation revealed the driver of a Jeep sport-utility vehicle, Angelica Renee Whiting, 20, of Waldorf, was traveling east on Mattawoman Creek Road when she took evasive action to avoid striking an animal, left the roadway and struck several trees.

Whiting was transported by ambulance to Civista Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two passengers, a 17-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl, both of Waldorf, were not injured.

A 12-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl, both of Waldorf, were flown by helicopter to Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., with non-life-threatening injuries.
