UPDATE: Charged battery in trunk the cause of scrap vehicle fire at Charlotte Hall Metal & Scrap

UPDATE: MECHANICSVILLE , Md. -- On Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at approximately 2:30 p.m., 7 firefighters from Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the Charlotte Hall Metal & Scrap at 37339 Carpenter Lane, Charlotte Hall, for the reported scrap vehicles on fire.
Crews arrived on the scene to find 7 scrap vehicles completely engulfed in flames. The fire was under control and extinguished within 30 minutes.
Upon further investigation, the fire was found to be the result of accidental - charged battery in trunk of scrap vehicle igniting residual fuel. Workers were in the process of scrapping vehicles. The fire started while moving a vehicle with an excavator. No injuries have been reported.
MECHANICSVILLE, Md. - At approximately 1:50 p.m. today, June 16, firefighters are responding to multiple vehicles on fire at the Charlotte Hall Metal & Scrap 37339 Carpenter Lane. Fire Marshal has been requested.
