Donations set up for firefighter mom that loses everything in early morning blaze

LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — Bay District Volunteer Fire Department (BDVFD) responded to a house fire on Hermanville Road this past Saturday, where a 12-year-old juvenile male was rushed to the hospital as a result of smoke inhalation.

On June 13, at 2:28 am, smoke detectors alerted residents at their Lexington Park home of a fire in the single-wide mobile home’s living room. The occupants at the time included a 74-year-old woman, the mother of firefighter Michael Young and her grandson.

The BDVFD dispatched 42 firefighters and managed to extinguish the flames in approximately 15 minutes. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Losses reportedly amounted to $25,000 worth of structural damages, as well as another $20,000 worth of possessions.

A GoFundMe page has been created to help the owner, Barbara Ford, and her grandson “so they may begin to rebuild their lives” -
