PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — To save and find homes for the thousands of homeless cats and kittens in Calvert County and across Maryland, the Linda L. Kelley Animal Shelter is teaming up with 20 other shelters in the state to participate in the second annual Maryland 2,000 Saving Lives Across Maryland adoption event.
Beginning July 1 through July 31, the Linda L. Kelley Animal Shelter will waive adoption fees for felines with the collective goal of finding homes for at least 2,000 unwanted cats and kittens throughout the state.
Cats of all ages and personalities will be available for adoption, including kittens born during the warm summer months, known as “kitten season.”
“Kitten season is a busy time for animal shelters in Maryland,” said Calvert County Director of Public Safety Jackie Vaughan. “It’s critical that we find these cats and kittens homes so we can continue to take in others who need our help.”
The Maryland 2,000 Saving Lives Across Maryland event is organized by members of the Baltimore Animal Welfare Alliance, partnering shelters, Baltimore Animal Rescue & Care Shelter, Baltimore County Animal Services, Baltimore Humane Society and the Maryland SPCA.
Last year, participating shelters collectively surpassed the goal of the Maryland 2,000 and found homes for 2,395 cats and kittens during the inaugural year.
The Linda L. Kelley Animal Shelter is an open admission animal shelter managed by the Animal Shelter Division of the Calvert County Department of Public Safety. The shelter is located at 5055 Hallowing Point Road in Prince Frederick.
