Muddy mayhem at Annmarie Gardens

Dowell, MD- Hundreds of kids (and parents) found some relief from the heat this weekend while having some fun in the mud. Sunday, June 24 was Annmarie Sculpture Gardens and Arts Center’s fourth annual Mud Day.

From mounds of mud to muddy paintings, muddy obstacles and muddy artwork—it was all things mud at Annmarie Gardens. Some children took full advantage of the opportunity to get dirty, while others were a little apprehensive of the wet dirt.

The celebration is in part of International Mud Day (June 29). It was started in 2009 as a way to make all of the children of the Earth feel closer to each other. What better way to do that than with the earth itself? Regardless of age, race, and religion, covered in mud, we all look the same!

It wasn’t just kids who were caked in mud—plenty of parents joined in on the muddy mayhem and didn’t mind making a mess. Kids could play in the mud kitchen, paint with mud, make squishy faces on the trees, or just splash around in the giant mud pit.

For some kids, they preferred to stay clean and dry and instead enjoyed the other activities offered at Annmarie. But for the rest, they jumped at the chance to get muddy and not get into trouble!
