UPDATE FROM MARYLAND STATE POLICE (MSP)

On June 17 at approximately 5:08pm, a Jeep SUV operated by Janae Gatchell, of Indian Head was traveling eastbound on Route 231 west of Sixes Road in Prince Frederick.

For unknown reason, the Jeep crossed the center line and collided off-set head-on with a GMC Sierra operated by Barbara Shields, of Tracys Landing and occupied by Thomas Rymer, of Chesapeake Beach.

After the collision, the GMC traveled off the eastbound side of the roadway and collided with a wooden fence and came to a final rest in a small wooded area.

The Jeep then collided/sideswiped a Honda Civic operated by Matthew Cumers, of Lusby.

The Honda Civic was traveling directly behind the GMC Sierra. After this collision, the Jeep rolled and the operator was ejected. The Jeep came to a final rest in a ditch on the E/B side of the road.

Gatchell, the operator of the Jeep was transported to Prince George’s Hospital by MSP Trooper 7.

The occupants of the GMC were transported by ambulance to Calvert Memorial Hospital. Mr. Rymer was released from the hospital. 

The conditions of the other drivers are unknown at this time. 

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Prince Frederick, MD – A late afternoon multi-vehicle accident that occurred Wednesday, June 17 on Route 231 near Sixes Road in Calvert County remains under investigation, the Maryland State Police (MSP) reported.

According to a spokesman at the MSP’s Prince Frederick Barrack, a woman who was operating one of the vehicles involved in the crash was ejected from her vehicle. The woman , who has not been identified by authorities, was flown by MSP Trooper 7 to shock trauma.

According to the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department, two other injured motorists were transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital.

The crash occurred shortly after 5 p.m. While the road was reopened about an hour after the crash, MSP investigators closed the roadway later in the evening for over an hour while reconstruction was conducted.
