Owls and birdies help homeless dogs and cats

There must be an interspecies thing going on. Recently Second Hope Rescue, a dog and cat rescue group in Southern Maryland, has benefited from Origami Owls and golfers hitting birdies.

Traci Wince, an Origami Owl distributor talked to her supplier, designer Tammy Sapp, about doing fundraisers, and Sapp encouraged it. Wince is an animal lover and long-time friend of Lora Digulimio, Second Hope’s adoption coordinator.

Second Hope is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization which incurs a lot of expenses in taking care of the dogs and cats under its care. As a no-kill organization an animal can be the organization’s responsibility for quite some time and medical bills, as well as costs for food and supplies can build up.

Wince agreed to do two Origami Owl fundraisers The owners of the Seabreeze Restaurant and Crab House on Sandgates Road in Mechanicsville agreed to allow a bar party there. And Wince also conducted a second online party. Ten percent of the proceeds of both parties was presented to Digulimio by Wince and Sapp at the Seabreeze on June 17.

Origami Owls are personalized jewelry that are hugely popular. More than 60,000 independent designers sell the jewelry through parties such as the ones held by Wince. For more information check Sapp’s website at http://tammysapp.origamiowl.com/

One of Second Hope’s biggest annual fundraisers is a golf tournament at Wicomico Shores Golf Club. This year on June 19 dozens of golfers, and many hole sponsors, contributed to helping Second Hope raise monies to help the animals.

A number of Second Hope Rescue’s volunteers showed up to help with a myriad of duties, including posting the hole sponsor signs, providing drinks while the golfers were playing and food and drinks at the pavilion during and after the tournament.

Many businesses and individuals donated items for door prizes that were handed out after the tournament. There were also prizes for the golfers in several categories
