Blood Supply in Southern Maryland is Dangerously Low

  • By

The Southern Maryland Chapter of the American Red Cross is seeking much needed blood supplies to help save lives. In a recent media advisory, the Red Cross indicated that as of June 9, O negative and B negative supplies are very low.

The ideal supply is from five to seven days, but with O negative, supplies are estimated at a level that would be sufficient for only a quarter of a single day. The B negative supply is estimated to enough for only a day.

With blood supplies that low, hospitals and medical personnel cannot treat severely injured patients in the event of an emergency. Those wishing to donate should contact the Red Cross by calling 1 (800) GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543) or visit

Any participants in the blood drive will receive an American Red Cross t-shirt just for donating blood of any type.
