Dynard honored for character education

  • By

Dynard Elementary School has been named as a 2007 Maryland Center for Character Education (MCCE) School of the Year.

The award recognizes a school for its efforts and accomplishments in helping children develop into their full potential as citizens and adults. This is the second time Dynard has won this award under the leadership of Principal Kim Summers.

Character education helps schools support the home by fostering personal and civic virtues such as respect for self, empathy for others, a sense of self-discipline and responsibility, personal integrity, trust, fairness, courage, and love of learning.

MCCE is a non-profit, no-partisan organization whose primary purpose is to encourage family-focused character education as a part of a full approach to education. It helps prepare teachers for character education, develops library resources, and encourages research on character education.

Annually, MCCE hosts a recognition luncheon for schools in Maryland with outstanding character education programs. Representatives from Dynard will attend this year’s luncheon on Thursday, September 27 to accept the award.
