One Flown Out After Serious Three Vehicle Collision On St. Andrews Church Road Involving Fire Dept. Vehicle

CALIFORNIA, Md. - On May 7, 2021, at approximately 2:01 p.m., Chief 1 came across the fire radio reporting his vehicle had just been struck and was involved in a collision with injuries at the intersection of St. Andrews Church Road and Fairgrounds Road. 

Hearing this on the radio, emergency units responded immediately. Chief 1 reported 3 vehicles with 1 trapped and at least 3 injuries.

Crews arrived to find the three vehicles involved in the collision including the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department Utility 1 vehicle. The trapped driver was extricated within 15 minutes of arrival and turned over to EMS.

All four patients were evaluated and the trapped driver was deemed a trauma patient requiring a fly out to a Trauma Center. MSP Trooper 4 landed near the scene. Another patient was transported to MedStar St. Mary's Hospital and two patients signed care refusals on the scene.

Chief 1 was transported to the hospital with minor injuries for evaluation.  We wish him a speedy recovery!

St. Andrew’s Church Road will be closed in the area of Fairgrounds Road for an extended period of time. 

The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash.
