Elderly Woman Dies in Mechanicsville Fire; State Fire Marshal Investigating

 

 

UPDATE from State Fire Marshal: A team of investigators from the Office of the State Fire Marshal, St. Mary's County Sheriffs Office, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are conducting an investigation involving a fatal dwelling fire in the 38500 block of Lockes Forest Lane in Mechanicsville. The first 911 call was received at 12:03 p.m when an occupant of the home came home and discovered the fire. Another occupant of the home, who was inside, was able to escape without injury.

Upon the arrival of firefighters, they were advised another person was trapped inside the home. Firefighters entered the home and subsequently located an elderly female victim. The victim was later pronounced deceased at the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the identity and cause of death. Numerous firefighters from Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department and surrounding departments controlled the blaze, which consumed nearly half the home.

The origin and cause remain under investigation at this time, and updates will be released as additional information is developed.

Mechanicville, MD - Today, May 18, 2020 at approximately 12:03 p.m. fire and rescue personal responded to a two-story home on fire with subjects trapped in the area of Lockes Forrest Lane & Lockes Hill Road in Mechanicsville.

Once firefighters arrived they sprung into action. One occupant was rescued and removed from the structure. The second occupant was out prior to arrival. Both patients are being cared for by EMS. Trooper 7 Medic responded by ground, helos are down.

Mechanicsville VFD reported the flames from the structure could be seen through the woods in the area of the home and explosions could be heard from the structure upon arrival.  Lockes Hill Road is closed at this time. Units still hitting hot spots. All personnel accounted for.
