Yard Sailing Treasures - Wood Carving

Ken Stelzer and daughter, Debbie Miller

This weekend I attended a community yard sale in Pinefield Neighborhood in Waldorf.

There were dozens of tables set up by residents selling everything from shoes to Christmas decorations.

One table that caught my eye was full of wood carvings. I stopped and began talking to the artist, Ken Stelzer, who calls himself a “Scroll Sawyer”.

Stelzer told me that all of his carvings are made by hand. Prices varied from $2 to over $25 depending on the detail and the amount of work that went into making them. There was a rose carving for sale that Stelzer said took nine hours to make.

His daughter, Debbie Miller, was at the table as well. She is one of the painter/decorators of these creations.

For only $5 I got this beautiful carving with a flower and a butterfly that is now sitting in The Bay Net office for everyone to enjoy.

Miller told me that she and Stelzer do craft fairs as well around Southern Maryland.
