Music fest to promote local charities

The late spring celebrating in Southern Maryland will be cranked up a few notches Saturday and Sunday, June 7 and 8 at the Calvert County Fairgrounds. The 2014 Southern Maryland Sun and Music Festival will feature several bands and benefit numerous local charities.

According to a press release from event organizer Jim Zirakian, the local organizations that will benefit from the fest are Calvert Adult Day Care Center, Southern Maryland College Access Network, Project ECHO, Hunter’s Heroes, Calvert County Relay for Life and Arc of Southern Maryland.

The stage act headliners include The Morrison Brothers, Tom Principato, Deer Park Avenue and The Kelly Bell Band. The two-day event’s emcee is James LePore from Metrocast Channel 10’s “The Buzz.”

There will be plenty of food, beer and wine at the festival, which, in addition to the great blend of live music will include arts and crafts, a corn hole contest and a kids’ zone.

One-day admission to the 2014 Southern Maryland Sun and Music Festival is $25 per person, $40 per person for both days and a one-day backstage pass, which includes general admission and free refreshments, is $50.

Local wineries participating in the festival include Slack Winery, Solomons Island Winery, Friday’s Creek Winery, Cove Point Winery, Sangriadise, Perigeaux  Winery and Harvest Ridge Winery.
