At approximately 7:40 a.m. on May 3, St. Mary’s County School Bus Number 504 was involved in a fender bender near the intersection of Newtown Neck Road and MD Route 5. The driver and 25 school children were initially thought to be unharmed and a second bus was brought in to transport the children to school.

According to one parent who asked to not use her name, "My daughter just called and her neck hurts so I am taking her to the ER to get checked out.  Another girl is also complaining of neck pain."
Students on the bus report that the bus was merging onto Route 5 from Newtowne Neck Road and rear-ended the silver Toyota. "My girls think the driver in the silver car may also have been a student, but not sure and they took her away in an ambulance," said that parent.

At the same time, not known if related, there was a second accident between a jeep and a van. Transportation and police authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
