  • By

The Bay Net is pleased to announce the appointment of Jay Friess as its new Managing Editor. Friess will assume the position Monday May 14, 2007.

Friess is an award-winning reporter with nearly seven years of experience covering the Southern Maryland region. He has reported on nearly every facet of public life in the region, including land use, business relations, public safety, the courts, budgeting and politics.

Friess has received four awards from the Maryland-Delaware-DC Press Association for his reporting.

“To say that I’m excited to be joining The Bay Net team would be a vast understatement,” Friess said. “I believe this company is on the cutting edge of a new media paradigm – community-sourced, digitally delivered news content – and I am elated to be part of it.”

Friess previously worked with Southern Maryland Newspapers before joining The Bay Net to lead their growing news team.

Friess will take over the daily management of the paper from former Editor in Chief Anna Bedford. Anna will continue to serve as Board Member and Publisher for Bay Media Services products.  She will be leaving the daily operations to complete her PhD in Comparative Literature at the University of Maryland College Park, where she also serves as Publications Coordinator for the university’s Center for Teaching Excellence.
