Update--Two injured in crash near Anne Arundel/Calvert line


UPDATE Sunday, April 7

Lothian, MD - On Saturday, April 6 at 4:44 p.m., units from Calvert and Anne Arundel counties responded to an area of Southern Maryland Boulevard for a motor vehicle crash.

Units arrived to find a single-vehicle into a telephone pole with two people trapped. "The six-man crew went to work extricating both by removing the roof and one door," Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department officials stated. Both motorists were flown to a local trauma center.

Traffic on northbound Route 4 was backed up into Calvert County as police, fire, rescue and utility workers responded to the scene.

"A 61 year old male driver and a 42 year old male passenger were transported for what turned out to be non-life-threatening injuries resulting from a single-vehicle crash a spokesman for the Anne Arundel County Police Department told "Both individuals were treated and released from the hospital Saturday.  The driver lost control and struck a utility pole. The crash is under investigation."

Dunkirk, MD - Shortly after 5 p.m. Calvert County authorities reported a motor vehicle crash on Route 4 at the Calvert/Anne Arundel line. The Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department reported at least motorist is trapped. The department advises that Route 4 is shut down and motorists should "avoid the area at all cost."

Anne Arundel County Police Department reported at 6 p.m. that northbound Route 4 in the area of Talbot Road in Lothian was closed due to wires being down in the roadway. 

Anne Arundel authorities are handling the crash investigation.
