Local Organizations Collaborate to Combat Childhood Obesity

  • By

Civista Health, Charles County Health Department, and the Charles County Public Schools have joined together to assist parents and caregivers in helping children maintain a healthy weight.

We Can!™ stands for Ways to Enhance Children’s Activity & Nutrition. A national program, it offers families tips and fun activities to encourage healthy eating, increase physical activity, and reduce sedentary time among 8 to 13 year olds.
National organizations have also contributed resources and activities to the We Can! program, such as the National Cancer Institute, National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, and the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.
The program will be offered for the first time in Charles County for five weeks beginning April 14 at 6:00 pm at Eva Turner Elementary School.
Because exercise is included in each session, a medical release form will need to be completed before the first program. The program is free but advance registration is required. Call Civista on the Line, 1-(888) 332-4847.
