St. Mary’s County Government and Community COVID-19 Operational Update-March 23

LEONARDTOWN, MD – The following is the updated list of closings, cancellations and postponements related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Residents are encouraged to continue social distancing measures by avoiding crowded areas and restricting travel and localized movement.

St. Mary’s County Government Operations

All St. Mary’s County Government Administrative Offices are closed until further noticed.

All St. Mary’s County Government meeting spaces are closed until further notice.

The Commissioners of St. Mary’s County will hold their regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, March 24, 2020, at 9 a.m. The Commissioners plan to meet in person or by tele/video conference in the Commissioners Meeting Room, Chesapeake Bldg. 41170 Baldridge Street, Leonardtown, MD. All agenda items will be limited to essential business only.

Department of Aging & Human Services

All Senior Activity Centers (Garvey, Loffler and Northern) are closed until further notice. Senior Information & Assistance appointments will not be conducted in person. Individuals are encouraged to conduct business by phone or email, or to reschedule appointments for a time when Senior Activity Centers have reopened. All programs and activities are canceled.

Home-Delivered Meals will continue as regularly scheduled
There will be no congregate meals at Senior Activity Centers, but meals will be provided to New Towne Village and Cedar Lane Senior Living Communities

Department of Land Use and Growth Management
The Department of Land Use and Growth Management is accepting permit applications sent via email. The complete permit will be emailed to the applicant after payment is received by credit card. The Zoning Inspectors will make inspections following the usual procedure.

Certificates of Use and Occupancy will be provided following completed and passed inspections. Please have people with questions to call 301-475-4200, ext. 71500 with any questions.

Department of Public Works and Transportation
Convenience Centers and Landfill

  • The six convenience centers and the St. Andrews Landfill will continue normal operations until further notice

STS Transit

St. Mary’s County STS Bus System will implement service reductions on all parts of the STS:

• Local Fixed Route Bus - to minimize operator contact, passenger must place fare or ticket in the fare box or show their monthly pass or daily pass while boarding the bus.
• No more than 10 passengers are allowed on the bus at a time, passenger must wait until the following hour to ride the bus, first responders and medical service workers will be given priority boarding.
• Saturday service schedule will be followed plus the supplemental schedule:

  • Rt. 3 Great Mills Route (Supplemental) Tulagi Place to Callaway and return Every
  • hour 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. (see attached)
  • Rt. 6 Northern Route -Every other odd hour 7 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.
  • Rt. 7 Southern Route- Every other odd hour. 7 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.
  • Rt. 11 Great Mills/California Route- Every hour, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Rt. 12 Leonardtown Route- Every hour, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Rt. 14 County Span Route-NB/SB Every other even hour.6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• Sunday Service

  • Rt. 11 Great Mills/California Route – 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Rt. 12 Leonardtown – 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Mobility - ADA and SSTAP paratransit service will continue to book and provide medical trips such as dialysis, chemotherapy, hospitals, clinics, mental health facilities as well as trips to pharmacies and grocery stores.

STS Transit Office - STS office will be open on a limited basis. Call the STS dispatcher at 301-475-4200, ext. 71120, for an appointment for the purchase of tickets or passes or request a paratransit application or employment application to be mailed. St. Mary's County Regional Airport

  • St. Mary’s County Regional Airport is under normal operations, however, food truck service at the airport has been suspended service until further notice.

Department of Recreation and Parks

  • All programs, including organized practices and games in the parks, are canceled until further notice. The following Department of Recreation and Parks Special Events have been canceled or postponed:

• Easter Festival                        April 4
• Mother Son Kickball               April 19
• Summerstock Auditions         April 24 & 25
• Pickleball Tournament            April 25
• Mother Daughter Tea              May 2

Wicomico Shores Golf Course

  • Wicomico Shores Golf Course Pro Shop is open daily for golf from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Riverview Restaurant is closed for food service and all events.

The St. Clements Island Museum and Piney Point Lighthouse and Museum are closed and Maryland Day 2020 events at the St. Clements Island are canceled.

The Circuit Court building is closed to the public.
The Treasurer’s Office is closed. All tax payments should be mailed to St. Mary’s County Treasurer, P.O. Box 642, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Payments will be credited using the postmark date on envelope.

St Mary’s County Libraries
St Mary’s County Libraries are closed through March 29, library programming and events are also canceled. Meeting rooms are closed. No fines will be levied during library closure period. The Friends of the Library Book Sale scheduled for March 26-29 is canceled.

St. Marys County Metropolitan Commission
All Metropolitan Commission administrative lobbies and offices are closed to the public. MetCom’s 23121 Camden Way, California, Maryland office has limited access for deliveries, plan review drop off, and has a drop box available for customer payments. Our 43990 Commerce Avenue, Hollywood, Maryland facility has maintained water meter pick-up services, albeit upon request.

College of Southern Maryland
The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) announces that all instruction and college work-functions will operate remotely and access to CSM’s campuses is restricted to pre-approved and authorized personnel through April 3. CSM will maintain a virtual learning environment for its students and classes already shifted to remote learning are not canceled.

St. Mary’s County Public Schools
St. Mary’s County Public Schools are closed through March 27. Students are scheduled to return to school March 30, 2020.

From March 17-27, 2020, Monday-Friday, a drive-up lunch service will be provided at Leonardtown Elementary School, Greenview Knolls Elementary School, Margaret Brent Middle School, and Lexington Park Elementary School from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Meals will be offered to all children 18 years and younger free of charge. Parents and children can drive up to these locations and receive meals that they can take home during our current school closures.
