UPDATE: Margaret Brent MS Tests Return Negative for Coronavirus

UPDATE: Mar. 14, 2020 - MECHANICSVILLE, Md. - At a meeting this morning, Dr. Meenakshi Brewster who serves as the St. Mary's County Health Officer, confirmed what many Margaret Brent Middle School (MBMS) community members found out through email yesterday. The St. Mary’s County Health Department had recently conducted an evaluation of exposure risk including lab testing for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) of those individuals concerned. All lab tests conducted as part of this evaluation were negative for COVID-19.

"We conducted an evaluation of that risk of exposure and felt it prudent at the time to work with the schools in closing [MBMS] a day earlier than all the other schools," Brewster explained.

The email which was sent out also included the reminder: "Community members should continue to practice infection prevention and social distancing measures as described on the health department’s website at: www.smchd.org/coronavirus"

There are still currently no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in St. Mary's County.
