New Deputy State Fire Marshal joins Southern Regional Office

Carroll County - Deputy State Fire Marshal Josh Matthews graduated from the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, Police Entry Training Academy.  Deputy Matthews spent 28 weeks at the academy learning the entry level objectives of the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission's requirements for certification as a Police Officer in the State of Maryland.  Deputy Matthews along with his 28 classmates from the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, Frederick County Sheriff's Office, Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Office, Boonsboro PD, Thurmont PD and Ocean City PD were tested physically, mentally and academically over the last 28 weeks in everything from criminal and constitutional law, defensive tactics, mental health, firearms and emergency vehicle driving.  Deputy Matthews will now begin specialized training in fire and explosive investigation as well as code enforcement in addition to being field trained by a more senior and experienced Deputy State Fire Marshal.

Deputy Matthews will be assigned to the Southern Regional Office which is primarily responsible for fire and explosive investigations in Charles, Calvert and St. Mary's counties.
