Chesapeake Beach Resort & Spa making dreams come true

Chesapeake Beach, MD- Love and excitement filled the air at the Chesapeake Beach Spa and Resort on Saturday, March 18 at the hotel’s annual Wedding Showcase. The one day event featured a variety of vendors to help ensure the perfect wedding day.

From dresses to DJs to cakes and centerpieces—the Wedding Showcase had it all. Wedding vendors included photographers, honeymoon planners, invitations, decorations and much more. The showcase was packed with brides-to-be and their mothers, future mother-in-laws, bridesmaids and even some grooms.

“It’s our 7th annual wedding showcase. We have 39 vendors today but the biggest highlight is our resort. It gives the bride and groom time to see the resort and what we have to offer, including the hotel and spa.” Director of Sales Lori Kirby-Medlin explained.
Some of the vendors aren’t what you’d expect at a wedding showcases. “We have a home remodeler who can help newlyweds with home improvements, we have travel agents to help plan honeymoons and we even have a fitness trainer to help brides get in shape for their big day,” Kirby-Medlin said.

Chesapeake Beach Resort and Spa gives the feeling of a destination wedding without leaving the country, Kirby-Medlin noted. “If they wanted to have a destination wedding or a wedding on the beach, this is a great alternative. When you’re standing right out there, you’re on the water’s edge.”

General Manager Dorothy Paez also mentioned that the Chesapeake Beach Resort and Spa was recently recognized as the number one wedding showcase in Maryland. “We were also named the number one romantic destination on the western shore of Maryland.”

The resort can host up to three weddings on Saturdays in the summer. And if you think you’re too late to book your wedding for 2017, you’re in luck. “We still have dates available in 2017 and we have some specials we’re offering. We have quite a few fall dates and we have availability for small weddings.”

Chesapeake Beach Resort and Spa makes it easy for the bride and groom on their big day but there are also plenty of activities to keep their guests occupied during the weekend. “We have kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, jet skis, pontoon boats, Carolina skiffs and daily fishing charters,” Marina Manager Heather Grierson said. “We even have private charters and can do a cruise to nowhere for up to 50 people. Any kind of cruise you want, we can accommodate it.”

The marina is also offering a new twist on paddle boarding. “This is the newest and greatest invention of paddleboard. It’s very stable compared to typical paddleboards. We have two of these that are available for rent.”

The marina is located across the street from the main resort, behind the water park. “A lot of people don’t know we’re back there and we have a lot of fun stuff and it’s safe. You can go out on Fishing Creek it’s not as intimidating as on the bay,” Grierson explained.

New this year to the resort—Flyboarding. It’s a jetpack that you strap to your feet and it supplies a propulsion of water to send the rider up to 49 feet into the air or eight feet below the surface.

Engaged couple Christopher Blake and Lauren Wilson are just starting to plan for their wedding. Blake explained, “We were supposed to get married last year but we had some scheduling conflicts and we had to push it back. We had to re-strategize.”

They were visiting the resort from the DC area and got more than they bargained for. “We thought it was going to be a showcase of just this venue but now we see it includes so much more. It’s pretty interesting. It’s pretty informative,” Wilson said.

The couple said the event definitely gave them a head start on their plans. “The people have been really nice and they’re giving us great suggestions. We had no idea about any of this. I had no idea what to start with so that’s why we decided to come to the showcase,” Wilson confessed.

Also, for the first time, Chesapeake Beach Resort and Spa is going to be featured on a national television show. You can see the resort on “Say Yes to the Dress” on TLC this Saturday, March 25 at 8 p.m.
