Authorities in St. Mary’s County continue to investigate a single vehicle crash in California along the 45200 block of Patuxent Beach Road near the entrance to Myrtle Point.

Rescue crews responded to the accident around 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday, March 30. Upon arrival, crews discovered a single vehicle on fire, off the roadway and down a hill in a wooded area.

One person was transported from the scene with non-life threatening injuries.

Road conditions were wet at the time of the crash. No word yet on the cause.

As crews helped to clear the scene, traffic on southbound Route 4 was backed up to the Thomas Johnson Bridge making for a messy morning commute.

This accident remains under investigation.
