Woman arrested on arson charges

HUNTINGTOWN, MD - Deputy state fire marshals have concluded an origin and cause investigation with the arrest of one adult female. The fire, which occurred at 281 Sun Park Lane, Huntingtown, was discovered the morning of Feb. 9 while a breaking and entering investigation was being conducted by the Calvert County Sheriff's Office.  The fire had extinguished itself prior to the arrival of the Sheriff's Deputies and caused an estimated $1,000 in damage to the residence owned by James and Mary Wilkinson.

The fire scene investigation determined that the fire originated on the exterior of the home in a trash container which then extended to the residence. Deputy state fire marshals determined that Brandi Lynn Kelley, 35 of Huntingtown, was responsible for causing the fire. The investigation revealed that ordinary combustibles in the trash can were use to ignite the fire.

Kelley has been charged with first-degree arson, second-degree arson, second-degree malicious burning, arson, trash container and trespassing on private property.  Kelley was served an arrest warrant at the Calvert County Detention Center where she is currently incarcerated on other charges.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating an incendiary fire that occured in Huntingtown, early Saturday morning. 

On Saturday, Feb. 11 at 7:35 a.m. authorities were called to investigate a fire on the 200 block of Sun Park Lane in Huntingtown. According to the Deputy Fire Marshal's report, the fire was the result of a suspect igniting combustible materials on the exterior of the residence. Approximately $1,000 worth of damage was caused by the fire.

No fire department response was necessary and no injuries were reported.
