Drunk Driver Jailed After Nearly Striking State Trooper

  • By

On February 11, 2011 at 1:00 p.m., TFC J. S. Gibson responded to Maryland Route 5 in the area of Old Flora Corner Road to back up an off duty Maryland State Police Unit on traffic who advised that his vehicle was almost struck by maroon Chevrolet Silverado.

TFC Gibson made contact with the operator, later identified as Joseph Brennan Norris, III, 54, of Mechanicsville, and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from Norris’ breath. A standardized field sobriety test was performed on the scene of the stop and Norris was subsequently arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.

A search incident to arrest revealed that Norris was in possession of CDS. Mr. Norris was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center, charged accordingly, and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.
