Over 100 Firefighters Battle Building Fire for Over 4 Hours

Maryland State Fire Marshalls are investigating a 2 alarm fire in Charles County that completely destroyed a Waldorf Thrift Store.

Over 100 firefighters from Waldorf, Westlake, LaPlata, Hughesville, Bel Alton, Bryan's Road, Baden, Brandywine, Clinton and Accokeek responded to 2215 Crain Highway to the Value Village store on Feb. 7 around 1:25 a.m., for a reported commerical building fire.

Investigation revealed the fire was called in by a snow plow operator, who reported seeing thick black smoke coming from the building. Within a few minutes of receiving the first 911 call, MSP was on scene and found the building's roof collapsed and a good portion of the building already involved with fire. Firefighters helped to battle the blaze for over four hours.

The building and all of its contents were a complete loss and they will smolder for days.

Damage amount is estimated to be $650,000. No injuries were reported.

The Office of State Fire Marshal are continuing their investigation of how the fire started.
