Long Night for Local Firefighters

  • By

Local firefighters had a busy night battling a stubborn blaze in Park Hall that has left a home with over $115,000 in damages.

Over 45 firefighters from every fire company is St. Mary's County including Bay District, Valley Lee, Hollywood, Leonardtown, Seventh District, Mechanicsville and Ridge along with Solomon's VFD responded to the house fire located at 18558 Point Lookout Road on Feb. 9 around 2:44 a.m.

Investigation revealed the fire was discovered by a passing motorist and first arriving fire department units found the bulk of the fire contained to the attic. Suppression efforts were hampered due to the threat of collapse, because of the very high fire. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control after two and a half hours of firefighting efforts. Firefighters were still on the scene as of 8:30 a.m. this morning.

No injuries resulted from the fire and the house was severely damaged by fire, smoke and water.

The occupant was staying at a remote site at the time of fire. The cause of fire remains under investigation.
