Family Displaced from Dunkirk House Fire

On Tuesday, Feb. 23, at approximately 4:30 p.m., over 30 firefighters responded to the 4100 block of Ferry Landing Road for a reported house fire.

Firefighters from Dunkirk, Huntingtown, Prince Frederick, and North Beach arrived on the scene to discover fire in the walls, and began firefighting efforts. The fire was quickly extinguished and there was no report of any injuries. Smoke alarms were present but not working.

Damage is estimated to be $75,000.

Investigation revealed the cause of the fire was determined to be an excess of creosote build up in the chimney. The owners of the home are being assisted by friends and family.

Ferry Landing Road was closed in both directions for about 45 minutes due the number of firefighting equipment on the scene.
