V- Day: The Vagina Monologues Opens Today

  • By

At St. Mary’s College of Maryland, vaginas are happy, sad, belligerent, repressed, and vivacious. And above all, they are EXPRESSIVE! The Vagina Monologues opens in Room 25, Montgomery Hall Fine Arts Center, on the St. Mary’s College of Maryland (SMCM) campus, on Friday, February 9th, at 3:30 p.m.  Additional show times are February 9th and 10th at 7 p.m. Ticket price for the shows is $4.

V-Day is a global movement to end violence against women and girls that raises funds and awareness through benefit productions of Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues. In 2006, more than 2,700 V-Day events took place in the U.S. and around the world. To date, the V-Day movement has raised over $40 million and educated millions about the issue of violence against women and the efforts to end it, crafted international educational and media and PSA campaigns, to name just a few. The 'V' in V-Day stands for Victory, Valentine, and Vagina.

“This year's production of The Vagina will emphasize the women at St. Mary's performing the stories of women from around the country and world, as well as the connection to all women,” says director Katherine Rubino. “The twenty-six performers have worked hard to bring this show to fruition.  Come and be a part of the celebration of women and the fight to stop violence”.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland is ranked one of the best liberal arts colleges in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, The Princeton Review and Kiplinger’s. With roots going back to 1840, SMCM is the state’s only public honors college, offering the academic excellence of a top private college with the openness and affordability of public education.
