LEONARDTOWN, MD -- Myra Colvin of Leonardtown set up a lemonade stand this past summer. Her profitable enterprise earned her $86.

Many kids her age would have put the money towards the latest video game, a bicycle, or a Barbie Dream House. Generous Myra decided to put her earnings where the money could help save lives.

Myra, whose mom Desiree is a nurse in the MedStar St. Mary's Emergency Department, decided to give her hard-earned money to the not-for-profit hospital.

Dawn Yeitrakis, RN, vice president and chief nursing officer, accepted the donation. Myra had one request. She wanted the money used towards the purchase of personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect frontline workers like her mom.

The hospital was happy to comply.
