EMT Injured As Crews Battle House Fire in California

Correction: EMT injured not Firefighter

CALIFORNIA, Md. - On January 3, 2021, at approximately 1:35 a.m., firefighters and rescue personnel responded to 22966 Hazelnut Lane in California, for a reported house on fire.

First arriving units encountered a two-story single-family residence with heavy fire showing from all divisions in the rear, with heavy fire conditions in the attic space. 

Rescue Squad 1’s crew secured the gas and power to the residence, and was later assigned to Division 1 to assist with opening up and overhaul. While operating on Division 1 Rescue Squads crew reported that the secondary searches on the basement and 1st floor were completed with negative results.

Two occupants of the home suffered smoke inhalation, but refused medical attention. An EMT suffered injuries from a fall and was transported to a local hospital. All four occupants of the home are being assisted by the American Red Cross. Crews controlled the fire in approximately one hour.

Firefighters from Leonardtown, NAS Patuxent River, Mechanicsville, Second District, Seventh District, Bay District, Hollywood, and Solomons responded to the scene.

The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal is investigating the fire. Continue to follow for updates.
