BRETON BAY, MD -- Multiple local fire departments responded to the scene of a house fire in Breton Bay Sunday morning.

The fire broke out on Phillip Lane just after 6:30 am. The two-story home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene shortly after.

First responders reported "heavy" fire showing and advised motorists to avoid the area.

The two-story home was engulfed in flames. Crews used numerous handlines, the wagon pipe, and the ladder pipe to extinguish this fire.  Along with numerous tankers operating in a tanker shuttle, Boat 5 was added to the call and was utilized as the primary water supply once it was set up.

Tanker 74 shuttled approximately 12,000 gallons of water to the scene during the incident. The home's residents were not injured in the fire, though the family dog was lost.

The Maryland State Fire Marshall said smoke alarms were present in the home and did activate. The Fire Marshall said it appears the fire started in the attached garage. No criminal activity is suspected.
