Pair enters pleas in adult abuse case

Prince Frederick, MD – Two people charged with inflicting injury on an elderly man who was in their permanent care have entered pleas in Calvert County Circuit Court, judicial documents stated.

In entering the pleas, Teresa Lee Brown, 33 and Jeffrey Jackson Brown, 39, both of Chesapeake Beach, preempted their criminal jury trials. Both proceedings were scheduled for the week of Jan. 5.

According to court documents, Teresa Brown pled guilty Jan. 5 to one count of vulnerable adult abuse physical injury. The charge is a felony. Teresa Brown is represented by Sonji A. Moore.

Court documents stated that Jeffrey Brown entered an Alford plea to one count of abuse/neglect of a vulnerable adult-family member. The charge is a misdemeanor.

Jeffrey Brown is represented by Joseph F. Vallario Jr.

The charges for the pair stem from incidents that allegedly occurred between Aug. 31, 2013 and May 1, 2014.

Both cases are being prosecuted by the Calvert County State’s Attorney’s Office. Assistant State’s Attorney Kathryn Marsh is handling the cases. Marsh told The Bay Net prior to the scheduled trial that the indictments stating the allegations were based on testimony presented to a grand jury.

Sentencing hearings for both defendants are tentatively scheduled for Feb. 9.
