UPDATE: Police Standoff Ends in Lusby

On January 13, 2011 at approximately 9:25 P.M. 535-3159 Fax the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office members of Patrol Bureau responded to a residence on Crazy Horse Trail, located in Lusby. A family member called 911 and indicated that there was a male in this residence who was having mental issues. The caller stated that the occupant of the residence had a military background, possessed a semi automatic weapon and was threatening to harm himself.

Based on this information Officers attempted to make contact with the occupant to check his well being. The occupant answered the front door and upon learning that Law Enforcement was there he locked the door and retreated into the house. Member of the Sheriff’s Office Special Operation Team, and negations Team were then deployed to the residence. The occupant refused negations with law Enforcement. At approximately 11:20 P.M. members of the Special Operation Team deployed a chemical agent (Tear gas) and the occupant then exited the residence without

The occupant was transported by Law enforcement for an evaluation. A reverse 911 call was made to the surrounding houses to notify them of this situation. The occupant is 52 years of age.

On Thursday, Jan. 13 around 8 p.m., Calvert County Sheriff's Office and members of the SWAT Team responded to standoff situation at a home in the Chesapeake Ranch Club near Saugaro Court and Crazy Horse Trail after a relative called police alerting them of a situation.

Units arrived on scene to discover a man inside the residence was in a bad mental state and could possibly have access to weapons and may hurt himself or others.

Police closed Crazy Horse Trail as a precaution and used reverse 911 system to evacuate people from adjacent homes.

Police used tear gas after nearly three hours to force the man from the home. The man was then taken into custody and taken for medical and mental health evaluations. The name of the man involved in the standoff has not yet been released.

Authorities continue to investigate.
