At approximately 9:19 p.m. on January 7 the Calvert County Control Center received a call from an unknown man, advising that some one had killed his neighbor’s brother.

Calvert County Sheriff Deputies and Troopers from the Maryland State Police - Prince Frederick Barrack were dispatched to 4650 Solomons Island Road, in Huntingtown, for the reported homicide.

When officers responded to the scene they found a man named Clyde Chew standing on the front porch of the residence.

Members of the Calvert Investigative Team responded to the residence and assumed the investigation. Investigators found Clifton Jacks, a 49 year-old black male from Huntingtown dead inside the home.  Clifton Jacks suffered numerous strikes to the head and one strike to the upper back with an 8 lb. split maul (this tool has an axe like face on one side and a sledge hammer type on the other side).

Through the investigation, Clyde Oneil Chew, a 71 year-old black male from Huntingtown, who was observed on the porch when police arrived, was determined to be the suspect.  Chew was transported to the Calvert County Detention center to await a bond review.  He was charged with 1st and 2nd Degree Murder and 1st Degree assault.
