Laurice M. Chase White, 76, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at her residence.

She was born on August 20, 1938 to the late Lawrence and Geraldine Chase.

Laurice attended school in St. Mary’s County before relocating to Washington, DC, where she attended Langley Junior High and Martha Washington Vocational School for nursing: where began her career in nursing for ten years. In the late 1960’s she moved back to St. Mary’s County, where she lived until her demise. In 1972, she changed careers and became the first African American librarian in St. Mary’s County, working at the Lexington Park branch. She retired in July 2000.

Laurice was a member and subsequently elected president of the St. Mary’s County branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). On October 18, 2014 at the NAACP Annual Freedom Fund Banquet she received the President’s Award

Laurice is survived by her three children, Lovey Gabriel (Keith), Wydell Chase (Rhonda) and Faith Meath (Anthony); eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren, five sisters’, two brothers, over one hundred nieces and nephews and many other family members and friends

Family will receive friends at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, on Monday November 3, 2014 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 1041 Route 3 N, Bldg. A, Gambrills, MD 21054 and Hospice of St. Mary’s, Post Office Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
