Mike Bailey, President7/1/2009
The coordinators of the Ignite the Night 2009 Music Festival are in awe at how the community came together to provide what was an amazingly FREE, successful, and positive event on June 20th at the St. Mary's County Fair Grounds.
We want to first start by thanking the folks that were part of the main planning of this event and attending the many Monday night meetings and the hours of work and time given to be sure that Ignite the Night 2009 was successful.
We want the community of Southern Maryland to know that without the support of the many area churches, businesses and individuals, Ignite the Night 2009 would not have been possible. All the folks involved gave of their time and provided the resources, and services needed because they believe in reaching out to families and giving back to the community. It is not about getting their name in the county paper or having folks recognize them for their giving. And to the bands, although they spent hours of time preparing for this event, they are a part of Ignite the Night. They gave to the community without receiving a paycheck for their time and are there to be a part of something positive for our youth. Pete Tyson is the Ignite the Night stage manager, in charge of sound and the equipment that you see on the stage. He often gets forgotten for all his hard work as he is behind the scenes working with the bands and at the sound booth the entire 10 hours of the Ignite the Night event. Many of the bands have commented about his organizational skills and his attention to the smallest of details to allow each band to be their best while on the stage. Pete, you are the greatest! Holding it all together even after the storms.
To the Youth groups that provided the food, fun, and games for this event, thank you for all your hard work. And thank you to the youth that brought your friends to share in this exciting day. Thank you to the many teens that came out early Friday morning and spent hours building the stage, keeping it together Saturday, and packing it all up on Sunday afternoon. It is truly great to see teens working so hard to make Ignite the Night something that their peers will remember for a very long time. Many folks that came out to enjoy the music, stayed after the event to help with the clean up.
Ignite the Night is something that brings together the entire community, the churches, the businesses, and many individuals because they care about the youth and the families that they live with, go to school with, and work with every day. The rewards are the joy that it brings, the friendships that are made, and the positive message that it brings to the community of Southern Maryland.
Sincerely,
Mike Bailey, President
