The Charles County Board of Education would like to inform the community of some great achievements in the local school system:

- The Westlake High School Wolverine varsity football team is competing for the 3A state championship title at 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 4, at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. They will compete against Wilde Lake High School of Howard County. Tickets are $8 and parking is $5. Tickets can be purchased in advance Dec. 2-3, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Westlake. - Pre-kindergarten students at Dr. Gustavus Brown Elementary School celebrated Thanksgiving early last week by learning holiday rhymes, preparing recipes and sampling Thanksgiving treats. Students also decorated booklets to share with their families.

- Dr. Gustavus Brown Elementary School held a schoolwide tribute for its renewed recycling efforts at the school. Russ Talcott from the Charles County Department of Public Utilities spoke to students about recycling. Musical performances included “My Planet, Your Planet.”

- Students at Walter J. Mitchell Elementary School held a “Grandparents Day Thanksgiving” on Tuesday, Nov. 25. Each grade level performed songs and poems for visitors to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.

- The Piccowaxen Middle School Student Council Association and the school’s Principal Advisory Committee recently raised $750 to support the Charles County Sheriff’s Department “Shop with a Cop” community outreach program. The funds are used to support local families with holiday needs.
