PRINCE FREDERICK - 7/8/2008

Bomb Technicians with the Office of the State Fire Marshal’s Bomb Squad have charged a St. Mary’s County man with possession of fireworks with the intent to discharge. The charge stems from the June 28, large cache of fireworks found on a barge anchored in the Patuxent River off of the residential community known as Putuxent View. Investigators served a District Court Criminal Summons to Jack R. Beckwith, 58 of Mechanicsville, on Friday, July 4. A trial date has not been scheduled. Investigators discovered the cache of fireworks worth an estimated street value of $10,000.00 on a barge anchored in the Patuxent River. Investigators learned the fireworks had been purchased from various locations in the Common Wealth of Virginia. Beckwith did not have a permit for the display nor was he a licensed shooter in the State of Maryland. The possession of fireworks with the intent to discharge is a misdemeanor and if convicted of the charge, Beckwith is facing a $250.00 fine. |
