After Fighting Teen, Man Found with Rifle Ammo and Pot, Cops Say

At 10:10 p.m. June 5, Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a residence in the 9200 block of Vermillion Court in La Plata for the report of an assault in progress.

The investigation revealed a 37-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy who live there were arguing when man assaulted the boy and fled the scene.

A witness advised the man was possibly armed with a gun. Officers found the man hiding in a vehicle in front of the residence and arrested him. A subsequent search revealed the man was in possession of marijuana and rifle ammunition.

Officers also found a rifle in the residence and discovered the man obtained it during the argument and discarded it before fleeing the residence.

The man was charged with first- and second-degree assault, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.

Police did not release the name of the man in effort to protect the victim.
