The Calvert County Commissioners issued the following statements Wednesday night after severe thunderstorms and a reported tornado caused widespread damage. One person was reported hurt during the storm.
Non-residents of North Beach and Chesapeake Beach are asked not to enter the impacted areas while County emergency crews provide assistance. While the immediate threat of severe storms has passed, the BOCC, through the Emergency Operations Center, Department of Public Works, Department of Public Safety and Department of Economic Development, will continue to assess damage from today’s severe storms and provide assistance to residents and business owners as necessary. “The Board of County Commissioners is committed to identifying the necessary resources to help affected Calvert County citizens recover from this storm,” said Wilson Parran, BOCC president. “Our County departments will be working throughout the week with State and local agencies to address the concerns and issues our citizens are facing as a result of this violent and unusual weather system.” For information regarding storm clean up or assessments, call the Department of Public Works at 410/535-2216. For information about safety or emergency issues, call the Department of Public Safety at 410/535-0396 or 410/535-0314. For information about business damage or assistance, call the Department of Economic Development at 410/535-4583.
