Since 1830 people have died there. During the Civil War, people were imprisoned and died there. A couple of people were buried there. Apparently, some of them want revenge, or at the very least are not real happy about the way their lives ended.

Where?

The Point Lookout Lighthouse!

The historic landmark, situated on the very tip of St. Mary’s County, at the confluence of the Potomac River as it empties into the Chesapeake Bay has quite a history. It has been the seen of shipwrecks, slavery, a Civil War prison and, some think, torture chamber.

In its first 17 years in existence, four people died while performing their duties as lighthouse keeper; two of whom are buried on lighthouse grounds.

Over the years, Point Lookout Lighthouse has been studied by paranormal experts. It has been recorded, filmed and photographed. People have reported strange sounds, rattling doorknobs, a boisterous gathering in empty rooms, and more. One visitor reported speaking to an 8-year-old boy that knew the structure’s entire history. After the encounter, it turned out there were no children on or near lighthouse grounds.

Others have seen moving vapors and glowing lights in empty rooms. Another incident reports seeing a man dressed in 19th century clothes on the porch and then watched as he (or it) drifted out onto the bay. In short, Point Lookout Lighthouse seems to be a host for quite a few spooks, specters, ghosts and ghouls.

For people looking for an inexpensive, fun place to visit, perhaps the creep show at the old lighthouse can provide a bit of economical entertainment.

Chills anyone?
